Men?s Soccer Routs Georgetown, 4-0

UPLAND, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s soccer easily dispatched Georgetown (Ky.) by a 4-0 outcome on Friday night in the first match of the Taylor Classic in Upland, Indiana.

Corey Lopez (JR/Warsaw, Ind.) had a multi-goal performance to lead the Wildcats to their second victory of the season. IWU improves to 2-1-0 this season while Georgetown falls to 0-2-0.

Lopez was credited with the game-winner as he scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute. Tyrone Martin (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) crossed a pass into Lopez who one-touched the ball past the Tiger keeper to the far post. IWU added to their lead just six minutes later when Evan Young (SO/Colorado Springs, Colo.) beat the GC keeper off a crossing pass from Keaton Albert (JR/Park City, Ill.).

Indiana Wesleyan took a 2-0 advantage into halftime while outshooting Georgetown 8-2 in the half. IWU held a 4-2 shots on goal advantage.

The Wildcats applied even more pressure during the second half en route to two additional goals. Lopez scored his second mark of the night in the 58th minute with the assist going to Thomas Canfield (SR/Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Just a minute later Martin would figure in his second score as this time he beat the Tiger keeper with an unassisted goal for a 4-0 IWU lead.

Indiana Wesleyan outshot Georgetown 10-3 in the half with nine of those shots being on target. Overall, IWU held a massive 18-5 advantage in shots. Josh Goepper (JR/Shelby Township, Mich.) and Collin Stewart (FR/Fishers, Ind.) combined in net for the shutout. Goepper collected four saves in 70 minutes while Stewart finished the final 20 minutes and made one save.

IWU remains at the Taylor Classic tomorrow and will battle Marygrove (Mich.) at 4 p.m.
