Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer scored four second half goals to defeat visiting Bethel (Ind.) 4-1 on Tuesday night in Crossroads League action at Wildcat Field.
After a scoreless first half of play, Indiana Wesleyan erupted for four goals in a nine minute span in the early portion of the second half. That was more than enough for Indiana Wesleyan as Bethel did not score until the 88th minute.
Lydia Demmitt (FR/Troy, Ohio) scored the first goal of the match in the 50th minute when Katie Pannabecker (JR/Leo, Ind.) struck a ball that hit off a Bethel defender that landed at the feet of Demmitt. Her shot to the near post beat the keeper for the 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later Tracey Tiernon (SR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) struck a ball that was played back in the box by Nicole Biggs (JR/Fort Wayne, Ind.). Tiernon’s shot from 15 yards out put Indiana Wesleyan ahead 2-0.
Two minutes later the goals kept coming for Indiana Wesleyan as Lizzie Rittenhouse (SO/Marion, Ind.) got in on the action. Demmitt played a ball ahead to Rittenhouse who beat the keeper with a shot over her head for the 3-0 lead. Less than four minutes after the Rittenhouse goal, Demmitt scored her second of the evening. Demmitt collected a loose ball in the box and scored the goal to cap the four goal explosion.
The Wildcats outshot the Pilots 20-5 in the match and held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. IWU earned 14 shots in the second half with eight of them on target. Megan Weiss (FR/Lexington, Ohio) made two saves on three chances to earn the victory in net.
Indiana Wesleyan is now 2-8-0 this season with a 1-1-0 mark in the Crossroads League. Bethel loses their ninth in a row to drop to 1-10-0 and 0-2-0 in league play.
Indiana Wesleyan next plays Marian (Ind.) at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Wildcat Field. The match is during Homecoming at Indiana Wesleyan.
