Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball continued to protect their home court Wednesday night in a 3-0 victory over Crossroads League foe Huntington (Ind.) at Luckey Arena.
The Wildcats (10-3, 5-0 CL) have played four consecutive Crossroad League matches at home since last Wednesday. IWU won all four matches vs. Saint Francis (Ind.), Taylor (Ind.), Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio), and tonight against Huntington. In all, the Wildcat win streak stretches back to nine straight victories.
Indiana Wesleyan struggled in the opening game with Huntington (1-4, 1-4 CL) before ultimately pulling away for a 25-20 win. After that, IWU cruised to wins by scores of 25-10 and 25-14.
“I feel like the energy was all there,” said IWU head coach Candace Moats about the first game. “We were mentally prepared but I don’t know what it was. It seems to take everyone a little bit to get into the rhythm to just settle in. That seems to be our characteristic right now. We need to struggle before we settle in and go. I think it’s a lot of youngness and it’s taking time for that to mesh together.”
Sophomore middle blocker Remy Bucknor (SO/Euless, Texas) had an impressive showing tonight with match-highs of 12 kills, a .500 hitting percentage, two solo blocks, and six block assists.
“Remy is finding her way,” said Moats. “During practice we have worked a lot on her blocking hands, her eyes, and staying off the net. Tonight she paid attention to that detail and became the Remy we know she is. And I believe there is still more there. Tonight was an incredibly encouraging performance.”
Morgan Miller (FR/Goshen, Ind.) added seven kills, Kylie Portera (SO/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) had five, and Tay Thomas played the third game and tallied four kills on seven attempts. Katey Holler (JR/Marion, Ohio) assisted on 21 kills and Ashlen Buck (SO/Brazil, Ind.) finished with a team-best 10 digs.
Indiana Wesleyan will now start an extended period of away matches with five straight Crossroads League matches away from Luckey Arena. The first of those is Friday night at Bethel (Ind.) in Mishawaka, Indiana.
