Box Score 2 OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- Cedarville (Ohio) extracted a bit of revenge on Indiana Wesleyan University softball with a 7-1 victory in an elimination game at the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament in Oakland City, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan had defeated Cedarville 4-1 yesterday in the first game for both teams in the double-elimination tournament to decide the region’s automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament. Cedarville now advanced to the finals to play Grace (Ind.).
Emily Sell (SR/Clinton, MI) played the role of hero in the opening game on Tuesday in an elimination game against top-seed Spring Arbor (Mich.). With the score tied 5-5 in the top of the seventh and the bases loaded with two outs, Sell stepped to the plate and delivered the game-winning grand slam for a 9-5 victory.
Hull allowed four runs -- two earned -- in 3.0 innings while Janessa Guevara (SO/Lathrop, CA) earned the win in relief with one run on two hits in 4.0 innings. Guevara did not walk a batter and struck out four Cougars.
The Wildcats received plenty of offense today and was led by Sara Kreitzer (FR/Ashland, OH) and Marissa French (SR/Crawfordsville, IN) with three hits each. Kreitzer also scored a run while French added an RBI and two runs scored. Hull was 1-for-2 with a double and was twice hit by a pitch. Allison Bexell (SO/Avon, IN) was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Amanda Brunner (SO/Miamisburg, OH) and Sam Hemming (JR/Russiaville, IN) each had a single.
In the final game against Cedarville, Guevara suffered the loss with three runs -- two earned -- in 4.0 innings. She gave up six hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
Hemming hit 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a runs score. Kreitzer reached base three times with two hits and a walk while Brunner was 2-for-3.
The Indiana Wesleyan season is now complete. IWU ends the 2014 year with a record of 32-26.
