DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s golf shot two strokes better today during the second round of the NAIA National Championship being contested at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.
A day after shooting a first round score of 310, Indiana Wesleyan fired off a 308 on Wednesday. The 618 score after two rounds has Indiana Wesleyan in 27th place in the 29 team field.
Indiana Wesleyan is just two strokes out of a top-25 spot as Westminster (Utah) is at 616 and Point Park (Pa.) has totaled a 617. Following third round play on Thursday the tournament will be cut to 17 teams and 40 individuals.
Blake Russell (SO/Monticello, Ind.) and Jake Coffey (FR/Columbus, Ind.) lead the Wildcats through Wednesday play. Russell is tied for 49th position with a 149 (74-75) while Coffey is two strokes behind him at 151 (76-75).
“I am very happy with Blake and Jake’s play through the first two rounds,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Austin Conroy. “I am hopeful one or both of them will qualify for the fourth round on Friday.”
Dalton Miller (JR/Jonesboro, Ind.) is tied for 113th place with a 156 (79-77) and Zach Kinch (SR/Converse, Ind.) is tied for 140th position at 162 (81-81). Brennan Brooker (SR/Medina, Ohio) rounds out the Wildcat team at 166 (83-83) for 150th place.
Indiana Wesleyan tees off at 7:50 a.m. tomorrow for the third round.
