Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball collected a pair of wins over visiting Grace (Ind.) on Saturday at Wildcat Field. IWU won both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 7-2 and 6-2.
The victories improve the Wildcat record to 22-10 on the season and 10-4 in the Crossroads League. The Lancers drop to 10-8 and an even 6-6 mark in league contests.
In the opener, Indiana Wesleyan scored four runs in the second inning and three more in the third inning to quickly gain a 7-0 advantage. Indiana Wesleyan did not score again as Grace scored one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings.
Sara Kreitzer (FR/Ashland, OH) got the offense in the second inning with a leadoff home run. Gabby Bogear (SO/Sacramento, CA) doubled to deep center field to score Michelle McGary (JR/Plainfield, IN) and an Allison Bexell (SO/Avon, IN) sac fly to right field scored Bogear to account for the second inning scoring.
The Wildcats piled it on it the third inning with four runs, all coming with two outs. Bexell hit an RBI single and Amanda Brunner (SO/Miamisburg, OH) followed with a two run double. Gabby McIntire (SR/Logansport, IN) provided an RBI single to account for the final run for IWU.
McIntire improved to 11-6 on the season as she allowed one unearned run on four hits in 5.1 innings. She was the only Wildcat with more than one hit as she finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Much like game one, Indiana Wesleyan scored all their runs early in game two. All six runs came in a big first inning as six Wildcats crossed the plate.
Kreitzer did the big damage as she crushed a 3-run home run with one out in the inning. Brunner hit a two out RBI single and Melanie Ypya (JR/Collinsville, IL) followed with an RBI base hit to shallow left field. Brunner came around to score on the play when the left fielder bobbled the ball for an error.
The six run first inning was all Janessa Guevara (SO/Lathrop, CA) needed. Guevara pitched a complete game and allowed one earned run on five hits in 7.0 innings. She did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Emily Sell (SR/Clinton, MI), Kreitzer, and Bogear all rapped out two hits in the win. Jessica Hull (SR/South Bend, IN) and Ypya each had a single and a walk.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 3 p.m. on Monday vs. Saint Francis (Ind.). The doubleheader will be played at Wildcat Field.
