Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Marian (Ind.) swept a softball doubleheader today from Indiana Wesleyan University. Marian won the games in Indianapolis by scores of 9-7 and 6-5.
In the opening game, Indiana Wesleyan scored three runs before Marian ever came to bat. Marian captured the lead with a five run third inning and never trailed again.
Janessa Guevara (SO/Lathrop, CA) took the loss with six runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work. She walked six and struck out five. Gabby McIntire (SR/Logansport, IN) was perfect in 2.0 innings on the rubber.
Both teams rapped out nine hits in the contest as Marissa French (SR/Crawfordsville, IN) was the only Wildcat with two hits. One of her hits was a double and she also scored a run. McIntire was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI while Amanda Brunner (SO/Miamisburg, OH) also plated two. Jessica Hull (SR/South Bend, IN) had a hit, a stolen base, and two runs scored.
Indiana Wesleyan matched their first inning production in game two with a three spot. The advantage quickly dissipated as Marian put up a three spot in the home half of the inning. Trailing 5-3 in the fifth inning, Indiana Wesleyan scored twice to tie the game at 5-5. Marian responded with the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 6-5 victory.
Hull suffered the loss in relief with three runs -- just one earned -- on 10 hits in 6.0 innings. McIntire and French each tallied two hits to account for half of the eight IWU hits. Sara Kreitzer (FR/Ashland, OH) was 1-for-2 with a walk and one RBI and her double was the only extra base hit for the Wildcats.
Indiana Wesleyan gets back to it tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a road game at Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
