Box Score 2 SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball and Spring Arbor (Mich.) each won a game during this afternoon’s doubleheader played in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
Indiana Wesleyan earned a 6-5 victory in the opening game while Spring Arbor captured the split with a 14-1 decision in five innings in game two. IWU is now 19-9 this season and 7-3 in the Crossroads League while Spring Arbor is 10-10 and 3-5 in league play.
In the first game, the score was tied 4-4 as the game headed into the seventh inning. Gabby Bogear (SO/Sacramento, CA) stepped up to the plate with two outs and two runners on base. Bogear launched a double into the left-center field gap that chased home Allison Bexell (SO/Avon, IN) and Sara Kreitzer (FR/Ashland, OH) for the 6-4 lead.
Jessica Hull (SR/South Bend, IN), who came in to pitch in relief of Gabby McIntire (SR/Logansport, IN), got the first out of the seventh inning before a Spring Arbor home run trimmed the IWU lead to 6-5. Hull got the next batter to ground out to shortstop but the next batter singled to put the tying run on first base. But Hull induced a ground ball to third base for the third out as Indiana Wesleyan escaped with a 6-5 victory.
Hull earned the win in relief as she gave up one run in 2.2 innings of work. She allowed three hits and no walks while striking out one. Kreitzer had a huge performance at the plate as she was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI. Sam Hemming (JR/Russiaville, IN) was the only other Wildcat with multiple hits as she was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
In game two, Spring Arbor scored seven runs in the first inning and continued the offensive attack en route to a 14-1 victory in a five inning mercy rule. SAU added one run in the third inning and six more in the fourth inning.
Kreitzer continued to reach base in the second game as she went 1-for-2 with a walk while she also knocked in the only IWU run. Bogear, Hemming, and Emily Sell (SR/Clinton, MI) each contributed a double. Janessa Guevara (SO/Lathrop, CA) took the loss as she surrendered eight runs (six earned) in 3.0 innings. She allowed 10 hits and two walks to go along with one strikeout.
Indiana Wesleyan gets right back out there as they compete at Wildcat Field tomorrow at 3 p.m. IWU hosts Bethel (Ind.) on Cancer Awareness Night.
