MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball braved the elements this afternoon to claim both ends of a doubleheader with Ohio Christian by scores of 6-2 and 12-0. The second game was completed in the fifth inning due to mercy rule.

Sam Hemming (JR/Russiaville, IN) had a huge afternoon as she went a combined 4-for-7 at the plate. Three of her hits were of the extra base variety with one home run and two doubles. Hemming scored four times and knocked in four RBI.

Indiana Wesleyan did not trail the entire day after scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ohio Christian came back to tie the score 2-2 with two runs in the top of the third inning, but Indiana Wesleyan quickly recaptured the two run lead with two runs in the home half of the third inning. IWU scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the 6-2 victory.

Besides the two hits from Hemming, Marissa French (SR/Crawfordsville, IN), Amanda Brunner (SO/Miamisburg, OH), Melanie Ypya (JR/Collinsville, IL), and Kristina Ross (SR/Harrison, OH) all contributed one hit. Hemming and Brunner each doubled while Allison Bexell (SO/Avon, IN) drew two walks and scored one run.

Gabby McIntire (SR/Logansport, IN) won her seventh game of the season in 4.2 innings of work. She gave up two runs on four hits and no walks along with five strikeouts.

The Wildcats scored early and often in the nightcap en route to the 12-0 mercy rule victory. IWU scored four runs in the first inning, another in the second inning, and then they batted around in the third inning for seven runs.

That would be plenty of support for Janessa Guevara (SO/Lathrop, CA) as she gave up just one hit in 5.0 innings. She gave up one walk and struck out two.

Eight Wildcats had hits in the win led by Hemming and Brunner with two hits apiece. Hemming and Kreitzer each collected three RBI while Emily Sell (SR/Clinton, MI), Gabby Bogear (SO/Sacramento, CA), Kreitzer, and Hemming each crossed the plate twice.

Indiana Wesleyan was scheduled to play at Goshen (Ind.) tomorrow but that game has been postponed due to the weather forecast. The next scheduled game for IWU is Friday at 3 p.m. when the Wildcats host Marian (Ind.) at Wildcat Field.
