Box Score 2 UPLAND, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball stayed inside the county to win a pair of games against Grant County foe Taylor (Ind.) today in Upland, Indiana.
The Wildcats won the opening contest 10-8 in 9 innings and completed the sweep with a 12-7 victory in game two. The wins move the Wildcats to 13-7 overall and 3-1 in Crossroads League action.
Indiana Wesleyan came from behind to win the opening game 10-8. IWU trailed 7-3 following four innings of play. But Indiana Wesleyan scored once in the sixth inning and four times in the seventh inning to take an 8-7 lead.
But the Trojans answered with one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score at 8-8 and force extra innings. The Wildcats plated two runs in the ninth inning and then held on in the home half as the Trojans stranded the tying run on bases for the 10-8 victory.
Gabby Bogear (SO/Sacramento, CA) and Sam Hemming (JR/Russiaville, IN) each contributed three hits in the win. Both crossed the plate twice and Bogear knocked in four RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan’s offense exploded early in game two to gain a quick advantage en route to the sweep. Following two quick runs in the first inning, Indiana Wesleyan batted around in the second inning with eight runs to lead 10-2. IWU added two additional runs in the fifth inning as they won 12-7.
Sara Kreitzer (FR/Ashland, OH) connected on four hits in the victory with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI. Heming blasted a 3-run home run and finished with four RBI while Emily Sell (SR/Clinton, MI) was 3-for-5 with a double, a run, and one RBI.
Indiana Wesleyan is scheduled to host Ohio Christian on Monday at Wildcat Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
