FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball went on the road against a top-10 foe today as they defeated No. 9-ranked Saint Francis (Ind.) 79-58 in Fort Wayne.

The road win against a top-10 opponent is the second in their last three outings. Indiana Wesleyan beat then No. 10-ranked Bethel (Ind.) 78-73 on November 25 in Mishawaka, Indiana. IWU has now defeated four ranked teams this season and all have come on the road or on a neutral court.

Saint Francis (10-2, 2-1 CL)  held a 15-12 lead early in the contest but Indiana Wesleyan went on an 18-2 run to take a 30-17 advantage. USF was able to get as close as eight points late in the half before Indiana Wesleyan scored six of the final eight points to head into halftime up 44-32.

The Wildcats did not allow the Cougars to cut the deficit to single digits during the second half of play. IWU led by as many as 23 points late in the game before the final horn sounded for the 79-58 victory.

Indiana Wesleyan (11-0, 3-0 CL) shot a blistering 61.7-percent (29 of 47) from the field and 55.6-percent (10 of 18) from beyond the arc.

Lane Mahurin (SO/Rockville, Ind.) tied a career-high of 21 points that he just set on Tuesday vs. Grace (Ind.). He was 8-of-10 from the floor with five rebounds. Zac Vandewater (SR/Warsaw, Ind.) earned a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 5-of-6 from the field. Josh Mawhorr (JR/Muncie, Ind.) contributed 13 points and Jacob Johnson (FR/Mooresville, Ind.) added 11 points off the bench. Jonny Marlin (JR/Greenwood, Ind.) tallied seven points and five assists.

Kyle Sovine paced Saint Francis with 16 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting. Austin Fox was the only other Cougar in double figures with 11 points. The Cougars shot 51.1-percent (23 of 45) as a team.

Indiana Wesleyan next plays at Olivet (Mich.) on December 13 in Olivet, Michigan. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 3 p.m. IWU returns to Crossroads League play in January.
