Box Score SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball won their second game in as many days to complete a two game sweep in Puerto Rico.
Indiana Wesleyan defeated Puerto Rico-Bayamon by a 72-58 margin on Wednesday to improve to 14-0 this season. They defeated Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 82-62 on Tuesday. IWU is the No. 1-ranked program in NAIA Division II while Bayamon is a NCAA Division II program.
The Wildcats defeated the Vaqueros on the strength of their 3-point shooting and rebounding. IWU hit 12-of-26 (46.2-percent) from beyond the arc and claimed a huge 44-21 advantage on the glass. DJ Bettinger (SR/Richfield, Ohio) led the 3-point parade with a 4-of-8 performance while Bob Peters (SO/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) connected on 3-of-5. Lane Mahurin (SO/Rockville, Ind.) had an enormous day on the glass with a career-high 18 rebounds. His previous high was 12 boards.
Three Wildcats scored in double figures with Bettinger leading the way with 14 points. Mahurin contributed 13 points and Zac Vandewater (SR/Warsaw, Ind.) added 10 points. The Wildcats finished with 18 assists on 25 field goals made and were led by Jonny Marlin (JR/Greenwood, Ind.) with 10 helpers.
Indiana Wesleyan led Bayamon 38-28 at halftime. IWU led by as many as 21 points in the second half when they held a 59-38 lead.
Indiana Wesleyan next plays IU Kokomo on Saturday, December 27. The game in Kokomo, Indiana begins at 3 p.m.
