Box Score BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- IU Southeast scored the first seven points on Friday and never surrendered the lead in an upset of No. 5-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball at the Union College Classic in Barbourville, Kentucky.
Indiana Wesleyan (9-2) trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half. Teneil Krebs (SR/Bucyrus, Ohio) scored an old-fashion 3-point play on the final possession of the opening half to close the halftime deficit to 34-24.
Erika Isham (SR/Tekonsha, Mich.) scored in the paint with 11:26 remaining in the second half to close the gap to six points at 45-39. But IU Southeast (8-3) pulled away from Indiana Wesleyan with an 18-2 run over the next six minutes to build a 22 point lead at 63-41.
The Wildcats trailed the Grenadiers 68-47 with 2:37 left in the game. IWU scored 15 of the final 17 points of the game to narrow the deficit to 70-62 as the final buzzer sounded.
Indiana Wesleyan struggled offensively as they shot 33.9-percent (21 of 62) from the field and 26.1-percent (6 of 23) from 3-point range. IWU did finish with 17 assists on 21 field goals made while committing just 11 turnovers.
Isham led the team with 18 points and 8 rebounds off the bench. She shot 8-of-10 from the field and blocked 3 shots. Katrina Blackmon (SR/Marion, Ind.) was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 12 points. She hit 6-of-8 from the foul line and dished out 7 assists. Tori Kraft (JR/Harbor Beach, Mich.) was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc as she scored 9 points and Krebs tallied 9 points and 5 rebounds.
Indiana Wesleyan will play at the Union College Classic tomorrow against Alice Lloyd (Ky.) at 2 p.m.
