Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The top-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball team continued their hot shooting tonight in a 76-60 victory over host Aquinas (Mich.) in the Crossroads League/WHAC Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Wildcats were forced to be effective in their shots this evening as they were limited to 22 less shot attempts than the Saints. The Wildcats hit 24-of-48 (50.0-percent) on the night while the Saints took 70 attempts and hit just 22 (31.4-percent). The Saints outrebounded the Wildcats 46-36 and pulled down 25 offensive rebounds en route to the 22 additional shots.
Indiana Wesleyan continued to spread the ball around as six Wildcats scored eight or more points tonight. IWU managed 14 assists on their 24 field goals and were led by Jonny Marlin (JR/Greenwood, Ind.) and Bob Peters (SO/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) with four apiece.
Marlin led the Wildcats with 14 points as he was 4-of-6 from the floor and 3-of-3 from 3-point range. Peters added 12 points while DJ Bettinger (SR/Richfield, Ohio) and Zac Vandewater (SR/Warsaw, Ind.) each scored 11 points. Bettinger connected on a pair of 3’s while Vandewater pulled down a team-best eight rebounds. Josh Mawhorr (JR/Muncie, Ind.) and Nate Bubash each contributed eight points in the win.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 4-0 this season while Aquinas drops their first of the year as they are now 1-1.
Indiana Wesleyan and Cornerstone (Mich.) battle tomorrow in a top-25 showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 noon in Grand Rapids and is the first game of the Challenge on Saturday. Cornerstone is 3-0 this season and ranked No. 11. CU defeated No. 8-ranked Robert Morris (Ill.) 77-53 in the first game of the Challenge.
