Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer put a scare into No. 7 Spring Arbor (Mich.) tonight in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals played in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
A Spring Arbor score in the 51st minute gave the No. 1-seed of the league tournament what seemed like an insurmountable 3-0 advantage. But Indiana Wesleyan put together one last surge in the upset bid.
Jordan Harris (JR/Reidsville, N.C.) scored the first Wildcat goal in the 57th minute. Nicole Biggs (JR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) put a ball into the box on a corner kick and there was a scramble in front of the SAU net. Finally, Harris put the ball to the back of the net to trim the deficit to 3-1.
Twenty minutes later a Spring Arbor foul inside the 18-yard box created a penalty kick situation. Caitlyn Mains (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.) took the penalty kick and scored as Indiana Wesleyan trailed just 3-2 with 14 minutes remaining.
But just 38 seconds later, Indiana Wesleyan gave back a penalty kick which SAU took advantage of to increase their lead to 4-2. Less than a minute later Spring Arbor struck again for a 5-2 lead.
Indiana Wesleyan managed to score one last time in the 80th minute. Biggs beat the SAU keeper at the top of the box and put the ball into the open goal for the 5-3 score.
Spring Arbor held a 25-6 advantage in shots tonight and held a 13-6 advantage in shots on goal. IWU keeper Megan Weiss (FR/Lexington, Ohio) made eight saves on 13 opportunities.
With the loss the Indiana Wesleyan season comes to a close at 4-13-1. Spring Arbor advances to the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals.
