MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball took five games to beat Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) tonight in a Crossroads League showdown in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
The Wildcats beat the Cougars by scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-6. The win moves the Wildcats to 17-4 overall and 10-1 overall while the Cougars fall to 14-6 and 6-5.
Remy Bucknor (SO/Euless, Texas) and Morgan Miller (FR/Goshen, Ind.) paced Indiana Wesleyan with 19 kills apiece. Miller hit .327 with 28 digs on the night while Bucknor was a force once again at the net with three solo blocks and four block assists.
Three other Wildcats joined Bucknor and Miller with double digit kills. Kristin Predajna (JR/Fishers, Ind.) had 12, Bianca Cifaldi (SO/Itasca, Ill.) finished with 11, and Kylie Portera (SO/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) earned 10. Those five Wildcats were the only members of the team to record a kill. Katey Holler (JR/Marion, Ohio) assisted on 38 of those kills while Emily Workman (FR/Tinley Park, Ill.) contributed 24.
“The girls continue to battle our opponents’ best each match,” said IWU head coach Candace Moats. “Mount Vernon Nazarene played outstanding tonight. However, the ladies kept their poise and finished in style. I’m so proud of their attitude. I’m fortunate to be their coach.”
Indiana Wesleyan will have a big weekend tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the Panther Invitational. IWU battles #RV Trinity Christian (Ill.) on Friday at 2 p.m. and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Indiana Wesleyan will play No. 25 Davenport (Mich.) at 10 a.m. and No. 8 Viterbo (Wis.) at 2 p.m.
