Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- In the last match of the 2014 regular season Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer lost 4-1 to No. 23-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Indiana Wesleyan completes the regular season with a record of 4-12-1 overall and 3-5-1 in Crossroads League action. IWU finished eighth in the final league standings and will play the No. 1-seed in the Crossroads League Tournament that begins next Saturday.
Mount Vernon Nazarene scored the only goal of the first half in the 23rd minute. Tiffany Wright launched a shot from 30 yards out to score the first goal of the match. MVNU took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Cougars scored the next two goals of the match to lead 3-0. Brittney Bogantz scored the first of those goals in the 51st minute with a goal on a corner kick play. Casey Apple then put the Cougars up 3-0 with a rebound score in the 67th minute.
Katie Pannabecker (JR/Leo, Ind.) put the Wildcats on the board for the first time in the 74th minute. The assist was credited to Nicole Biggs (JR/Fort Wayne, Ind.). But the Cougars increased their advantage back to three goals with the final score of the match in the 82nd minute.
Mount Vernon Nazarene held a 20-15 advantage in shots this afternoon and put 14 shots on goal compared to seven for Indiana Wesleyan. IWU keeper Megan Weiss (FR/Lexington, Ohio) earned 10 saves on 14 opportunities.
Indiana Wesleyan plays in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals next Saturday. IWU will play at the No. 1-seed which will be either No. 9 Spring Arbor (Mich.) or No. 21 Grace. Please check back at iwuwildcats.com for opponent and game time information as it becomes available.
