Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer had a solid performance on Wednesday night in a 2-0 loss to Crossroads League leader and No. 9-ranked Spring Arbor.
Indiana Wesleyan stayed close and played well against the NAIA top-10 program on Senior Night at Wildcat Field. The senior class was honored in a postgame ceremony. The seven seniors recognized were: Kerrin Clancy (SR/Wheaton, Ill.), Caitlyn Mains (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.), Tracey Tiernon (SR/Fort Wayne, Ind.), Elisa Teller (SR/Greenwood, Ind.), Haley Svrcina (SR/Troy, Mich.), Megan Hardesty (SR/Ellettsville, Ind.), and Jillian Owens (SR/Greenville, Mich.).
Spring Arbor scored their first goal of the evening in the 12th minute. Becca Lynn took a corner kick and sent the ball to the back post. Shannon Balcer was awaiting the ball and headed it home for the 1-0 lead. That would be the lone goal of the first half.
The second Cougar goal came in the 67th minute when SAU cleared the ball over the top of the Wildcat defense. As IWU keeper Megan Weiss (FR/Lexington, Ohio) came out deep in the box to make a play on the ball, SAU’s Aubrey Schierbeek deflected the ball past her for the 2-0 advantage.
Spring Arbor held an 11-5 advantage in shots tonight and put five on goal to three for Indiana Wesleyan. Weiss finished the evening with three saves in net.
The Wildcats are now 4-11-1 this season and 3-4-1 in Crossroads League play. The Cougars improve to 14-1-0 and 8-0-0.
Indiana Wesleyan will complete the 2014 regular season on Saturday in a road contest at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). Kickoff for the match is set for 2 p.m.
