Box Score UPLAND, Ind. -- Taylor (Ind.) was limited to a season-low in points tonight as No. 5-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball traveled to Upland for a convincing 56-42 victory in the Battle of Grant County.
Indiana Wesleyan (16-3, 6-1 CL) was dominant on the defensive end for long periods of time tonight with two key stretches. Taylor was negated from scoring for eight and a half minutes during a stretch in the first half which saw a 10-9 IWU lead grow to 20-9. In the second half, Indiana Wesleyan did not allow a Taylor field goal for the first 10 minutes of the second half as the 29-19 halftime lead grew to 40-22.
Katrina Blackmon finished an old-fashion 3-point play with 2:36 left in the first half to put Indiana Wesleyan ahead 25-15. IWU led the rest of the game by double digits, including a game-high of 19 points (43-24) midway through the second half.
Indiana Wesleyan shot 47.6-percent (20 of 42) from the floor and 81.3-percent (13 of 16) from the foul line. Blackmon led all players with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Emma Stahl added 14 points and 3 assists while Taylor Goshert chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds.
Taylor (7-12, 2-5 CL) struggled to 26.3-percent (15 of 57) shooting from the field and shot just 9.5-percent (2 of 21) from 3-point range. TU committed 19 turnovers on the evening.
The Trojans out-rebounded the Wildcats 36-29. TU pulled down 17 offensive rebounds which led to a large 15 shot attempt advantage on the night. But the Wildcats were effective with their shots and did so in the paint, outscoring the Trojans 45-27.
Indiana Wesleyan will travel to Spring Arbor (Mich.) for their next game on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
