Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball ended the weekend with three wins in four tries at the Judson-Robert Morris Tournament in the Chicago, Illinois region.
Indiana Wesleyan lost its morning set to Trinity Christian (Ill.) 3-0 but rebounded to defeat host Robert Morris 3-1. On Friday, Indiana Wesleyan defeated No. 16-ranked and 2012 NAIA national runner-up Columbia (Mo.) and host Judson (Ill.).
“After yesterday’s physical work to achieve what we did and getting to bed late we had a low energy level today,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. “But I am proud of the girls for working very hard at fighting through, even with the disappointing loss in the morning. Even with the disappointment with the Trinity Christian loss I was really proud of them for coming back and fighting through the second match and putting it together to win.”
The Wildcats were defeated by the Trojans in the morning by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-22. The Trojans improve to 15-4 following the victory.
Kristine Egebrecht was the lone Wildcat with double digit kills as she produced 13 with a .289 hitting percentage. Katey Holler had 38 assists and Rebecca Brandes totaled 25 digs. IWU amassed 13 blocks as a team led by a five solo and one block assist from Egebrecht.
Indiana Wesleyan was able to compose themselves before their afternoon match with host Robert Morris. IWU won by scores of 25-27, 25-10, 25-17, 25-19. Robert Morris is now 6-9 on the season.
Rae Brandes led the Wildcats with 11 kills and was followed by Egebrecht with 10. Remy Bucknor added nine kills with a .400 hitting percentage. Holler assisted on 39 kills while Kelly Cypher and Rebecca Brandes each served four aces. Brandes totaled 25 digs for the second consecutive match.
Indiana Wesleyan (16-5) next plays at 7 p.m. on Wednesday versus Campbellsville (Ky.) in Luckey Arena.
