Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- In their first Crossroads League match of the season the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer team traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana and defeated Marian (Ind.) 2-0.
The Wildcats (4-3-1, 1-0-0 CL) launched 22 shots in the match and put nine of those on target. Defensively, the Wildcats gave up 12 shots but just four were on goal. IWU keeper Rachel Fulkerson made all four saves to preserve the shutout.
Katie Pannabecker scored the game-winner early in the match. In the eighth minute, Nicole Biggs sent a crossing pass into the box that Pannabecker sent home for the early 1-0 lead. That would be the lone score in the first half as Indiana Wesleyan outshot Marian 11-4.
Indiana Wesleyan gained an insurance goal in the 59th minute when Paige LaBonne scored for the 2-0 advantage. IWU would continue to pressure the Marian (3-6-1, 0-1-0 CL) defense with 11 second half shots but were unable to score another goal.
LaBonne and Pannabecker each scored their fifth goals of the season tonight. The five goals lead the team.
Indiana Wesleyan will remain on the road for their next contest which will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Huntington.
