Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer was unable to match No. 1-ranked and defending NAIA national champion Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) Friday night in the LWC Classic in Columbia, Kentucky.
Lindsey Wilson blew the match open late in the first half when the Blue Raiders scored three times in a five minute span.
Ayaki Shinada scored the unassisted game-winner in the 32nd minute. Natasha Gensetter answered her teammate just 38 seconds later for a 2-0 Lindsey Wilson advantage. Alice Coyne finished the spurt three minutes after that with a goal to put Lindsey Wilson up 3-0.
The Blue Raiders outshot the Wildcats 14-1 in the first half. IWU starting keeper Kelsey Powell managed four saves during the first 45 minutes of action.
Indiana Wesleyan fared much better defensively in the second half of play as Lindsey Wilson was only able to take six shots in the half. Rachel Fulkerson, who played the final 24 minutes as keeper, made three saves and allowed on goal.
Indiana Wesleyan will complete the classic tomorrow at 6 p.m. with a match against No. 14-ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.).
