Box Score MARION, Ind. -- On Friday night the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team lost to Bethel (Ind.) by a 3-0 score in Luckey Arena. The loss ends the IWU seven match win streak as the team suffers their first Crossroads League loss.
The Wildcats controlled a majority of the first set and built an advantage of 20-16. But the Pilots responded with 11 of the next 16 points to win the opening set 27-25. The Pilots continued their strong play the rest of the evening. BC won the next two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-21.
“I thought they (Bethel) did incredible on defense,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. “I thought they had really good shots on their offense. They constantly did something different all the time and I think our young players are still trying to adjust to that type of play. We hadn’t seen that type of play this season and these guys were coming in and attacking things low and quickly which was very smart stuff. It caused us to kind of go in chaos.”
Senior Kristine Egebrecht and sophomore Kristin Predajna led the Wildcats with 10 kills apiece. Senior Rae Brandes added four kills and 16 digs while sophomore Katey Holler added 33 assists and nine digs. Freshman Remy Bucknor provided one solo block and three block assists.
“I think we’re going to be hungry tomorrow,” continued Moats about tomorrow's match with Goshen. “I think we’re going to come out and I don’t think there’s going to be any people that are not ready to play. I think it’s going to be a good match.”
No. 20-ranked Indiana Wesleyan will host Goshen (Ind.) tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Luckey Arena.
