Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Lightning brought a premature close to the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer match with Campbellsville (Ky.) Saturday night at Wildcat Field.
Indiana Wesleyan (1-0-1) and Campbellsville were tied 1-1 when lightning struck nearby. The official called for a delay with exactly one minute remaining in regulation. The two head coaches decided to abandon the rest of the game.
The contest was a tale of two halves which featured a dominating performance by Campbellsville in the opening half while Indiana Wesleyan turned the tables during the second half.
Campbellsville (1-1-1) outshot Indiana Wesleyan 14-4 during the first 45 minutes of play and held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Jessica Ralph scored an unassisted goal in the 30th minute that would be the only goal during the half. Indiana Wesleyan goalkeeper Kelsey Powell was able to keep her team close throughout the half with five saves.
The Wildcats returned the favor during the second half of the match. IWU outshot the Tigers 13-6 and during the second half the Wildcats held the advantage in shots on goal by a 6-2 margin. The Wildcats evened the score in the 63rd minute when Katie Pannabecker found the back of the net off an assist from Annette Somercik.
Campbellsville held a slight 20-17 advantage in shots as both teams put eight shots on target. Powell ended the evening with seven saves for Indiana Wesleyan.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play on September 6-7 in a tournament hosted by Cleary (Mich.) in Howell, Michigan.
