Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- It was not a normal day of softball for Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday. IWU played a doubleheader against University of Saint Francis (Ind.) at noon in Fort Wayne, Indiana before driving an hour west to Winona Lake to play in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.
Indiana Wesleyan defeated Oakland City (Ind.) University 14-6 after receiving a first round bye in the three-team, double elimination tournament. Oakland City beat host Grace (Ind.) College 2-1 earlier in the day to draw Indiana Wesleyan.
Saturday will repeat Friday’s schedule as Oakland City and Grace will play at 11 a.m. in an elimination game. The winner will then play Indiana Wesleyan in the regional championship.
Indiana Wesleyan led Oakland City 2-1 through three innings on Friday night before the offense kicked it into another gear. IWU scored in each of the final four innings and scored a combined 12 runs in that time to lead 14-3. Oakland City doubled their runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 14-6 final score.
Gabby Bogear had a career-day with a season-high four hits. She hit a double and tallied two RBI and three runs scored to lead the offensive attack. Allison Bexell contributed a 2-for-5 performance with three RBI and two runs while Jessica Hull totaled two hits and Marissa French hit a home run.
Gabby McIntire earned the victory with 4.2 innings pitched. She surrendered three runs on five hits. McIntire helped herself at the plate with three hits and three RBI.
