Box Score 2 ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University softball Spring Break trip came to a close on Friday in a doubleheader sweep at Roosevelt (Ill.) University in Rosemont, Illinois.
Indiana Wesleyan won the games by scores of 9-1 and 9-7. The doubleheader was the first softball games in Roosevelt history and were played inside a dome.
The Wildcats won the opener by scoring three runs in each of the third and fourth innings for a 6-0 lead. Roosevelt scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth before the Wildcats put the finishing touches on the win with one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Indiana Wesleyan tallied just seven hits in the victory as they earned nine walks. All seven hits were singles. Marissa French was 1-for-2 with 3 RBI and Michelle McGary finished 2-for-2, a walk, two runs and two RBI. Sam Hemming had a hit plus two walks with two runs while Bryttany Van Vliet was 2-for-4.
Tanna Hinthorne allowed one run on four hits to collect the victory for IWU. She walked two and struck out five.
The Wildcats had to come from behind twice to win the second game. Trailing 4-2 after two innings, the Wildcats regained the lead 5-4 in the top of the third. The Lakers took the lead back with a run in the third and two more in the fourth for a 7-5 advantage. IWU plated three runs in the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth for the 9-7 victory.
Hinthorne earned the win in game two with 4.1 innings of relief. She allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Jessica Hull started the game and surrendered five runs (four earned) on six hits in 2.2 innings.
Allison Bexell pounded out three hits with a triple, three RBI, and two runs scored. Katie Smith was 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs, and two RBI while Hemming reached base three times with three walks.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 11-4 this season while Roosevelt falls to 0-2. IWU will host their first home game of the season on Saturday, March 16 against Aquinas (Mich.) College at 10 a.m.
