The Wildcats took the opening game by an 8-7 margin while the Saints managed the split with a 10-6 victory in the second game. IWU moves to 15-6 on the season while SHU is now 10-8 after the non-league tilt.
Indiana Wesleyan had to fend off a last inning rally from Siena Heights to hang on for the victory in the opener. IWU led the entire game and added two key insurance runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-3 lead with only three outs to go. Siena Heights was able to score four in the home half and had the tying run on second base with two outs. In the second game, Indiana Wesleyan once again built an early lead but this time could not hold on as Siena Heights overcame the deficit late for the win.
Both teams scored one run in the second inning and two runs in the third. Siena Heights gained the advantage with a run in the fourth to pull ahead 4-3. But IWU responded with three runs in the top half of the fifth. Bogear ripped an RBI double to tie the score 4-4. Indiana Wesleyan then received some clutch hitting from Michelle McGary and Sam Hemming with two out RBI hits, including a double from Hemming, for a 6-4 lead.
Hinthorne struggled in the bottom of the fifth and failed to get an out as Gabby McIntire relieved her following two straight Saints’ singles to lead off the inning. After a sac bunt and intentional walk to load the bases, the Saint got the big hit with a bases clearing triple to capture a 7-6 lead. The Saints scored three more times in the inning for a six spot in the sixth to earn the 10-6 win.
Bogear hit 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored while Hull added a 2-for-4 game with her third home run of the afternoon. Hemming reached base three times with one hit and two walks while Bryttany Van Vliet walked twice and scored two times.
