Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- For the second time in 2013 No. 3-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball and No. 5-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) did battle in a top-five showdown. Tonight, Georgetown revenged their earlier loss with a 60-56 victory at the Shawnee State Tournament in Portsmouth, Ohio.
In the first meeting on November 12 in Luckey Arena, then No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan pulled away with a 62-49 victory over then No. 4-ranked Georgetown. Indiana Wesleyan is a NAIA Division II program while Georgetown is NAIA Division I.
The loss is the second straight for Indiana Wesleyan as they lost 85-76 last Saturday against No. 2-ranked Saint Francis (Ind.) in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The back-to-back losses for Indiana Wesleyan are the first in nearly three years as they lost February 12 and 16, 2011 at Saint Francis and at home versus Marian (Ind.).
Tonight, Indiana Wesleyan (9-2) took a three point halftime lead (28-25) before Georgetown rebounded and outscored IWU 35-28 in the second half for the victory. The 56 points is a season low for Indiana Wesleyan.
The Wildcats struggled offensively as the team shot 33.3-percent (18 of 54) from the field and 28.6-percent (2 of 7) from 3-point range. The Wildcats finished the evening at 72.0-percent (18 of 25) from the foul line.
Three Wildcats finished in double figures led by juniors Emma Stahl and Val Sohasky with 13 points apiece. Senior Taylor Goshert tallied a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Teneil Krebs added nine points and junior Erika Isham chipped in with six points.
Indiana Wesleyan won the battle of the boards 44-37. Twenty-one of the IWU rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Georgetown (5-1) also had a poor shooting night as the Tigers finished at 37.5-percent (21 of 56) shooting and 12.5-percent (2 of 16) shooting from beyond the arc. Georgetown shot 80.0-percent (16 of 20) from the charity stripe.
Four Tigers scored in double figures and were led by Lizza Jonas with 13 points. Jessica Foster nearly earned a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to the floor tomorrow afternoon as they play host Shawnee State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Portsmouth.
