WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s cross country team defended their Crossroads League Championship today and won the 20th league title in program history.
Indiana Wesleyan scored 47 points to edge out runner-up Taylor (Ind.) with 53 points. Goshen (Ind.) was third at 71 points and Spring Arbor (Mich.) was fourth at 75 points. The meet was hosted by Grace (Ind.) in Winona Lake, Indiana.
“It was a great day for the men,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach John Foss. “We were able to come here and take care of business. We look forward to NAIA nationals in Kansas.”
Indiana Wesleyan has won 20 league titles dating back to 1973. IWU has claimed the past two championships and three of the last four. Since 2000, Indiana Wesleyan has won seven championships.
The Wildcats were paced by their top four runners who were all named All-Crossroads League. The top-15 runners on Saturday earned the distinction.
John Wilson, Jacob Reinking, Parker Williams, and Steven Osladil were the all-league recipients. Wilson was third overall in a time of 26:22 to lead the Wildcats and Reinking was right behind Wilson at 26:25 and was fourth place. Williams claimed sixth place in a time of 26:38 and Osladil was 14th at 27:30.
Matt Abebe was the final scorer for Indiana Wesleyan and he was 20th in 27:40. Rounding out the top-seven today were Nathan Gerick and Tyler Laubach. Gerick took 25th place in 27:50 and Laubach was 32nd at 28:09.
Indiana Wesleyan receives the Crossroads League automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship courtesy of the league championship. That race will be at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 23 in Lawrence, Kansas.
