Box Score MARION, Ind. -- For the second time in less than a week the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) 3-0 in Luckey Arena.
Tonight, the win came in the Crossroads League Tournament First Round. IWU won by scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-19. Indiana Wesleyan defeated MVNU 3-0 on Thursday in the regular season finale to clinch a share of the Crossroads League regular season championship.
“Playing Mount Vernon Nazarene for the second time in a week is just one of those things like how do you get your team ready to go and how do you mentally get them ready,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. “So tonight was a mental test on how do you go back out and play a team again after just beating them a couple days ago. Tonight, mentally we could have done a little better but we executed and got the game done so we accomplished the goal.”
Rae Brandes finished with a double-double as she contributed 13 kills and 10 digs. Kristine Egebrecht was the only other player in the match with double digit kills with 10. She ended the evening with a .714 kill percentage.
Katey Holler assisted on 37 kills and also had 11 digs. Rebecca Brandes had team-highs of 18 digs and two service aces.
Indiana Wesleyan, the No. 2-seed in the league tournament, will next face No. 3-seed Taylor (Ind.) at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The match will be in Luckey Arena and the first 100 Indiana Wesleyan students with their student ID card will get free admission, courtesy of the IWU Athletic Department.
“It is not going to take motivation,” said Moats. “Because whenever you play Taylor there is already motivation. I think that we will come out and be ready. I have no doubt in that.”
Indiana Wesleyan swept the season series with Taylor. IWU won 3-0 in Marion on September 6 and then 3-1 on October 4 in Upland.
