Box Score MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- It was opening night in the Crossroads League on Tuesday and No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball continued its impressive start to the season with a 69-49 victory at Bethel (Ind.) in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan (7-0, 1-0 CL) has beaten teams by an average of 26.4 points per game and has defeated every team by double digits, including three ranked teams. Six of the seven games have been by 20 or more points.
The Wildcats opened the Crossroads League schedule on the road and the defense stifled the Pilots. BC was limited to 31.5-percent (17 of 54) shooting from the field and just 24.1-percent (7 of 29) in the second half. The Wildcats dominated the glass by a 48-29 margin and collected 20 offensive rebounds.
Bethel (4-5, 0-1 CL) was able to keep the game close early as the first eight minutes featured five ties and two lead changes. Marissa Coolman scored in the paint with 12 minutes to go in the first half as Bethel tied the score for the final time at 11-11. From there, Indiana Wesleyan went on a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 26-13 lead with 6:15 to go.
Indiana Wesleyan took a 37-27 lead into halftime. Erika Isham hit a pair of free throws with 1:55 left in the half for the final points before intermission.
The first nine minutes of the second half saw Indiana Wesleyan score 12 of the first 17 points to build the advantage to 49-32. The lead swelled to as many as 23 points on two different occasions before winning by 20 points.
Taylor Goshert led all players with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She had seven rebounds and was one of four Wildcats with six or more boards. Isham added 11 points off the bench and Jessica Brown made her first career start and she finished with 10 points and two assists.
Teneil Krebs ended the evening with eight points and eight rebounds and Carlee Cottrell added seven points. Val Sohasky grabbed eight boards and Katrina Blackmon pulled down six.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action this weekend with a non-league game at Cornerstone (Mich.) on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
