Box Score MARION, Ind. -- It was Homecoming at Indiana Wesleyan University today but Grace (Ind.) rained on the women’s soccer parade in a 4-0 outcome at Wildcat Field.
The Lancers scored three first half goals and punctuated the victory with a fourth goal as 10 seconds remained. GC improves to 8-5-0 this season and a perfect 5-0-0 in Crossroads League play while the Wildcats drop to 5-6-1 and 2-3-0 in league play.
Meredith Hollar scored in the 13th and 23rd minutes for the early 2-0 lead while Holly Bennett scored in the 43rd minute to give Grace the 3-0 advantage just before halftime. Despite the 3-0 lead, Grace managed to outshot Indiana Wesleyan by a mere 6-4 count.
Grace built an 8-2 advantage in shots during the second half but could only score as the match was winding down. Overall, Grace held a 14-6 cushion in shots and 10-4 in shots on goal.
Rachel Fulkerson started for Indiana Wesleyan in net. She made four saves on seven shots on goal in 70 minutes. Kelsey Powell closed the final 20 minutes as keeper and she made two saves on three Grace shots on goal.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in a rivalry at Taylor (Ind.). The contest will be played in Upland, Indiana.
