Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball gained a share of the Crossroads League regular season championship tonight with a 3-0 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Senior Night in Luckey Arena.
The Wildcats won the regular season finale by scores of 25-21, 25-12, 25-15 to end the regular season with a 25-10 record and a 16-2 mark in the Crossroads League.
Indiana Wesleyan and Bethel (Ind.) complete the season in a first place tie for the Crossroads League regular season title with 16-2 records. Bethel will be the No. 1-seed in next week’s league tournament while Indiana Wesleyan will be the No. 2-seed. Bethel won the tie-breaker with two head-to-head wins during the season.
The Wildcats celebrated the senior class tonight during the team’s final regular season home match. The seniors were Rae Brandes, Rebecca Brandes, and Kristine Egebrecht. The trio of seniors has a four year combined record of 130-31 and a 61-9 mark in league contests. They have won two regular season league titles, two league tournament championships, and they have played in the last two NAIA National Tournaments.
The three seniors played a prominent role in leading Indiana Wesleyan past Mount Vernon Nazarene. Kristine Egebrecht led all players with 15 kills and Rae Brandes had the second most with 10. Rebecca Brandes earned a match-high 11 digs in the win.
Christiana Tavo contributed nine kills and Remy Bucknor totaled six block assists and one solo block. Katey Holler assisted on 42 kills and Lindsay Rogan added 10 digs.
The two teams will renew acquaintances rather soon as Indiana Wesleyan and Mount Vernon Nazarene have been paired up in the Crossroads League Tournament First Round. That match will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Luckey Arena.
