Box Score MARION, Ind. -- It took less than an hour for Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball to dispatch visiting Huntington (Ind.) 3-0 Wednesday night in Luckey Arena.
“I was really thrilled with how strong we came out tonight,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. “We really dominated the match and it was really encouraging to see.”
Indiana Wesleyan (24-6, 15-2 CL) won the match by scores of 25-13, 25-12, 25-11. The win is the eighth straight for Indiana Wesleyan in the series and IWU has won 19 straight sets versus Huntington (7-21, 3-14 CL).
“Everyone has been going five sets with Huntington,” added Moats. “The second time through the league has definitely been a lot more intense as everyone has picked their game up. So it was a real focus tonight to up our game.”
Kristine Egebrecht led all players with 11 kills and a .611 hitting percentage. She had zero errors in 18 attempts. Rae Brandes totaled eight kills with a .412 hitting percentage plus 10 digs. Indiana Wesleyan completed the night with a .411 hitting percentage as a team.
Rebecca Brandes totaled a match-best 13 digs while Katey Holler assisted on 33 Wildcat kills. IWU amassed seven service aces with Rae Brandes and Raina Troyer each contributing three.
Indiana Wesleyan has a massive challenge ahead of them this weekend at the Georgetown (Ky.) College Boneyard Brawl as they play three top-10 opponents.
“Playing No. 1 in the country is motivating in itself and I have a lot of kids that are really excited about it,” said Moats. “This year we are not playing in this tournament to keep a high ranking and get a free pass in the NAIA Opening Round. However, to go in there and have an opportunity to show the raters and these top teams that we can compete is a great chance for us.”
Indiana Wesleyan opens the weekend with No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) at 11 a.m. on Friday and will end the day with a NAIA National Tournament rematch with #RV Viterbo (Wis.) at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Indiana Wesleyan battles No. 1-ranked Texas at Brownsville at 10:30 a.m. and No. 10-ranked Embry-Riddle (Fla.) at 3 p.m.
