Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Four Wildcats finished with 11 or more kills tonight as Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball defeated visiting Campbellsville (Ky.) 3-1 in non-league action inside Luckey Arena.
Rae Brandes, Remy Bucknor, Kristine Egebrecht, and Kristin Predajna all had double digit kills as Indiana Wesleyan overcame a first set loss. After losing 25-23 in the opening set, Indiana Wesleyan rebounded with wins of 25-8, 25-22, 25-20.
“We were kind of out of sync in the first set,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. “We had rearranged some things we thought would work better against Campbellsville but after tracking how we were doing we decided it was time to go back to our old ways. And when we went back there you could just see the familiarity and everybody felt at home.”
Brandes finished with a game-high 17 kills and she also added 13 digs while Predajna ended with a career-best 15 kills. Bucknor totaled 13 kills with a .526 hitting percentage along with six block assists and Egebrecht tallied 11 kills with four solo blocks.
“Rae has really been big for us this year and I am so proud of her. And KP is just getting better and better,” said Moats. “She was a middle last year so she has been learning to adjust to the outside which are very different positions. And because of her work ethic she has put herself into position to be a very strong outside.”
Katey Holler assisted on 54 kills which is one shy of her career-high and Rebecca Brandes collected 33 digs to tie her career-best performance.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to Crossroads League play on Friday after a short hiatus. IWU kicks off the second half of league play with an away match at Taylor (Ind.) that begins at 7 p.m. in Upland.
“We will be going into a pretty hostile environment,” concluded Moats. “It’s always a great match with them and since it’s away we will need to bring more energy and stay focused.”
