Saint Francis Edges Women?s Soccer, 2-1

Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- In the regular season finale Saturday night the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer team fell 2-1 at Saint Francis (Ind.) in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

“Saint Francis is a very quick and physical team but we were with them from the get go,” said Indiana Wesleyan graduate assistant coach Janelle Carmichael. “As the game progressed, the work paid off as we were able to connect out of the back and be quite a threat in the attacking third. Coach Strand and I were very pleased with the consistently high work rate and the physical presence we had tonight, despite the result.”

Carmichael and Strand coached the team tonight as head coach Dr. John Bratcher is out of state for his son’s wedding.

Saint Francis scored the night’s first goal with 18 seconds remaining in the first half. USF extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 53rd minute.

Indiana Wesleyan cut the deficit in half with 13 minutes left to play. Tracey Tiernon recorded her first goal of the season as IWU trailed 2-1. Indiana Wesleyan was unable to find the equalizer as Saint Francis claimed the victory.

The Wildcats fall to 7-8-1 this season and end Crossroads League play at 4-5-0 while the Cougars improve to 11-6-0 and 6-3-0 in league play. The two teams are not through playing this season as they will meet in the Crossroads League Tournament First Round next Saturday in Fort Wayne. USF is the tournament’s No. 3-seed and IWU is the No. 6-seed.
