Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. -- In a Top-25 showdown the I0th ranked Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team delivered in a big way with a 3-1 victory at No. 18-ranked Indiana-East in Richmond, Indiana.
"I am so proud of our girls," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. "It was the highest level volleyball match we've played this year. The girls were so composed and so determined. They were just phenomenal. They made incredibly smart decisions and executed the plan perfectly."
Indiana Wesleyan dropped the first game 25-21 before rebounding to win the final three games. IWU won by scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-17 and improve to 16-1 overall. The loss was the first this season for IU-East as they fall to 18-1.
The trio of junior outside hitter Rae Brandes, senior outside hitter Rachel Quackenbush, and junior middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht took over on Wednesday and accumulated 50 of the Wildcats' 60 kills on the night.
"Rae, Rachel, and Kristine were just getting it done tonight," said Moats.
Brandes led all players with 18 kills with a match high .333 hitting percentage. She was also a force defensively with 17 digs, one solo block, and one block assist. Quackenbush contributed 17 kills and earned a .265 kill percentage as she also finished with seven digs and one block assist. Egebrecht filled the stat sheet with 15 kills, a .286 kill percentage, four digs, three solo blocks, and five block assists.
"They went up, found the ball and did phenomenal things. I am just so proud of them," continued Moats.
Senior setter Yui Iwase was right in the thick of things all night. Iwase assisted on 54 kills while also supplying 12 digs and three block assists. Junior libero Rebecca Brandes totaled a team-high 21 digs and served a pair of aces.
Indiana Wesleyan returns home for the weekend with four games on tap as IWU co-hosts the IWU-Indiana Tech Challenge. Indiana Wesleyan plays Aquinas (Mich.) College at 2 p.m. on Friday and then #RV St. Xavier (Ill.) University at 6 p.m. On Saturday, IWU battles Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University at noon and then No. 22-ranked Cornerstone (Mich.) University at 2 p.m. The match with Cornerstone has been designated the NAIA Match of the Week.
