Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Regulation and two overtimes could not decide a winner tonight in the Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer match with Trinity International (Ill.) at Wildcat Field.
After 90 minutes of regulation the match was tied 1-1 and two overtimes would not change that. It's the second tie of the season for Indiana Wesleyan which is the first two tie season since 2007.
Indiana Wesleyan rushed out to an early lead with a goal in the first minute. Senior forward Seth Douwsma fed senior defender Micah Snyder for the first score as the game was just 42 seconds old. The goal was first for the defensive back in 72 career matches.
Trinity International tallied the equalizer in the 28th minute of play. The goal by P Giannakopolaus would send the contest into halftime with a 1-1 deadlock. Trinity International held a 5-1 advantage in shots during the first 45 minutes.
Neither team scored in the second half but each team was able to launch six shots. Trinity International put three on target while Indiana Wesleyan had two. Indiana Wesleyan then held a 4-1 advantage in shots in the first overtime while Trinity International had a 3-1 advantage in the final overtime period.
Zach Hammon was in goal for Indiana Wesleyan for the first 45 minutes and he surrendered one goal on three that were on target. Kyler Jacobs played the final 65 minutes and collected five saves with no goals allowed.
Indiana Wesleyan's record is now 5-1-2 on the season while Trinity International is 3-2-1.
Tonight's match was the final non-league contest for Indiana Wesleyan as Crossroads League action begins this weekend. Indiana Wesleyan will play at Saint Francis (Ind.) at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 21 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
