Box Score 2 WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- Senior starting pitcher Abbie Forman gave host Grace (Ind.) College fits on Tuesday in the Mid-Central College Conference opener for Indiana Wesleyan University softball.
Forman went into Winona Lake, Indiana and pitched two three-hit complete game shutouts to help extend the Wildcat win streak to 14. Forman struck out a combined 23 batters in the doubleheader as IWU won by scores of 6-0 and 5-0.
Forman pitched one of her best games in her career in the opener. She struck out 14 Lancers and did not walk a batter. She scattered three hits in the seven innings of work. In game two, Forman was not quite as dominant as the opener, but still blew away the Lancers. She again scattered three hits and one walk while striking out nine more in seven innings.
Offensively, Indiana Wesleyan continues to get hits from throughout the lineup. Ten different Wildcats collected hits in the opener and followed with five in the nightcap.
Catcher Katie Smith was 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI in game one which saw Indiana Wesleyan outhit Grace 14-3. Shortstop Emily Sell was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and centerfielder Tamara Davis added a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a run and one RBI. Leftfielder Sam Hemming added a solo home run.
Despite the 6-0 victory, Indiana Wesleyan allowed Grace to stay close until the fifth inning. IWU scored single runs in the second and fourth innings before blowing up for three runs in the fifth. Indiana Wesleyan added another run in the seventh to account for the scoring.
Indiana Wesleyan earned six hits from five different players in the game two win. Tamara Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as she was the lone Wildcat with more than one hit in the game. Emily Sell doubled for her third of the day and second baseman Kristina Ross finished 1-for-3 with three RBI.
The Wildcats scored the eventual game-winning run in the second and added three more in the fourth for a 4-0 advantage. Once again, the final IWU run was scored in the seventh.
Indiana Wesleyan will quickly return to action as the Wildcats play host to Goshen (Ind.) College tomorrow at 3 p.m.
