MARION, Ind. -- It was a wild Top-25 men's basketball showdown in Luckey Arena Tuesday night that finished with No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan University defeating No. 23 Indiana University East 92-76.

The story of the night was the explosive offense of the Wildcats in the final 12 minutes of the game. With 12:15 remaining, IU East held a 61-51 advantage on the strength of a 13-2 run.

From that point on Indiana Wesleyan (10-1) simply dictated the game and finished on a 41-15 run to shock visiting IU East (5-3). In 12 minutes time Indiana Wesleyan turned a 10 point deficit into a 16 point victory.

"I thought our guys showed a lot of resiliency tonight," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Greg Tonagel. "We came into that timeout down 10 and momentum had swung completely their way but everybody in that huddle believed. We just had great senior leadership."

Carrying the load offensively for the Wildcats was junior guard Jordan Weidner and senior guard Aaron Martin. Weidner scored a career-high 30 points with 22 of those coming in the second half. Martin netted 24 points and carried the team in the first half where he scored 17.

"We're such a potent offense," continued Tonagel. "Jordan hit some timely shots and Aaron has really shot the ball consistently the last few games."

Weidner hit 10-of-17 from the field and was 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. All four of his 3-pointers in the second half came in the final 12 minute stretch where he accounted for 19 points.

"My teammates just found me so it wasn't anything special that I did," said Weidner. "My teammates found me when I was open and I was able to hit the shots for the team."

Martin torched the Red Wolves in the opening 20 minutes when he scored 17 of the Wildcats' 40 points. He hit 3-of-6 from 3-point range and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line.

"Jordan and Aaron hit bulls-eyes," added senior forward Patrick Hopkins.

Indiana Wesleyan scored the first nine points of the game and led 15-2 in less than five minutes. But with Indiana Wesleyan leading 25-14, Indiana East took control of the game for over 19 minutes. With 11 minutes remaining in the first half until the 12 minute mark left in the second, IU East dominated and outscored Indiana Wesleyan 47-26.

"They have tons of shooters and tons of offensive threats," said Martin. "Weathering the storm is what we talked about. We knew they were going to go on a run and they did and we were prepared for it. It was really just contesting their shots because we knew they were going to get a lot of shots off."

Hopkins hit two free throws in the final minute to reach 10 points on the night and he led all players with eight rebounds. Senior guard George Jones IV added nine points with two thunderous dunks.

The Indiana Wesleyan defense was able to keep in check a very potent Indiana East team that averages over 93 points per game. The 76 points is 17 points below their season average and their leading scorer, Marcus Isaacs, was kept to just seven points, 12 points below his average.

Indiana Wesleyan next plays at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 8 in a home game against Shawnee State (Ohio) University.
