Box Score MARION, Ind. -- No. 8-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball did not drop a set en route to the Crossroads League Tournament championship on Saturday in Luckey Arena.
The tournament's top-seed ousted visiting Bethel (Ind.) College 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-23. Bethel was the No. 3-seed in the tournament.
By winning the Crossroads League championship the Wildcats earn the automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament. IWU seems to have an inside track to a bye from the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The top-12 teams receive byes past the opening round and to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa. Indiana Wesleyan is currently ranked No. 8 in the NAIA Top-25 Poll.
Saturday was the time for junior middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht to shine. She led all players with 15 kills and a stunning .652 hitting percentage. Following the match when postseason honors were awarded, Egebrecht was named Crossroads League Player of the Year.
Joining Egebrecht on the All-Crossroads League First Team was the Setter of the Year Yui Iwase. She earned the honor for the second straight season and finished the afternoon with assists on 44 of Indiana Wesleyan's 47 kills. Iwase also earned 10 digs and two block assists.
Junior outside hitter Rae Brandes was the third Wildcat named to the All-Crossroads League First Team. And on Saturday Brandes totaled 11 kills with a .385 hitting percentage, 13 digs, and one solo block.
Junior libero Rebecca Brandes was honored as an All-Crossroads League Second Team selection. Brandes tied with her sister Rae for team-high of 13 digs.
Freshman middle hitter Kristin Predajna was also honored by the Crossroads League as she was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats is in her 11th season at the helm of the Wildcat volleyball program. In that time, Indiana Wesleyan has won nine league tournament championships, including seven straight from 2002-08. IWU will now play in its third NAIA National Tournament.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 35-2 on the season while Bethel drops to 23-12.
