Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Cornerstone (Mich.) University upended Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball 69-65 in a NAIA Top-25 showdown at the Crossroads / WHAC Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Free throws were the key outcome to the game. No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan shot a putrid 45.5-precent from the line hitting just 10-of-22. On the other side, No. 20 Cornerstone hit at a clip of 85.7-percent as they were 18-of-21 from the charity stripe.
Senior forward Patrick Hopkins earned a double-double in the loss with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Junior guard Jordan Weidner was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 14 points.
Indiana Wesleyan outscored Cornerstone 30-18 in the paint and held a 13-3 advantage in second chance points. But the disparity in free throws made was too much for Indiana Wesleyan to overcome.
Cornerstone forward Derek Kingshott led all players with 26 points. He was 10-of-11 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action on Tuesday at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
