Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- The No. 9-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team was victorious 3-0 today over Bethel (Ind.) College in front of a Homecoming crowd inside Luckey Arena.
The 25-9, 25-14, 25-21 win was the 15th consecutive for the Wildcats as they improve to 22-1 this year and a Crossroads League best 10-1.
"We really came out today inspired," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. "We worked really hard in practice this week and wanted to come out especially hard in this match since Bethel has had so much recent success."
The Pilots had won six straight coming into play Saturday including a 3-2 victory at Marian (Ind.) University on Friday. The loss today knocks the Pilots to 11-10 overall and 4-6 in league play.
Junior middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht, the reigning NAIA National Volleyball Player of the Week, led all players with nine kills and a .400 attacking percentage. She also led the defense with five block assists.
Junior outside hitter Rae Brandes finished with seven kills, five digs, and three block assists while senior outside hitter Brooke Atwell and sophomore opposite hitter Alijah Mulitauopele each contributed six kills. Atwell hit .308 while Mulitauopele served four aces. Senior setter Yui Iwase again led the team with 25 assists.
"We thought we did a really good job on things we did in practice," said Moats. "We really worked on playing tough defense and transitioning this week and it paid off today."
Indiana Wesleyan will take to the road for a rematch at Grace (Ind.) College their next time out. That match begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10 in Winona Lake, Indiana. Grace is the lone blemish on the Indiana Wesleyan schedule thus far.
