GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men's cross country earned a fifth place showing at the massive 34-team NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
No. 21-ranked Indiana Wesleyan finished with 172 points and was the first of the nine Crossroads League teams present as the invitational. All four teams to beat Indiana Wesleyan are currently higher in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, which was No. 3-ranked University of Saint Francis (Ill.), No. 6-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) University, No. 10-ranked Aquinas (Mich.) College, and No. 20-ranked Cornerstone (Mich.) University.
Senior Ethan Naylor was stellar in leading the Wildcats in the 352-runner field. Naylor finished the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25 minutes 5 seconds for a fourth place finish.
Senior Andrew Albert was the next Wildcat to cross the line as he was 19th place in 25:49 and senior Ethan Laudermilch was 37th with a time of 26:15. Freshman Jonny Mendez was the fourth Wildcat in 54th place in 26:38 and freshman John Wilson was the final scorer in 58th after running a time of 26:41.
Freshman Tyler Laubach was sixth for Indiana Wesleyan in 86th place overall in a time of 27:06 while sophomore Jared Johnson ran a 27:25 for 105th position.
The meet represents the final regular season event for Indiana Wesleyan in 2012. IWU will next being postseason competition as Indiana Wesleyan hosts the Crossroads League Championship. That will be held on Saturday, November 3.
