Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Following a two and a half hour delay the Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team dropped a 68-63 decision to Marian (Ind.) University in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The 3 p.m. tip-off was postponed to nearly 5:30 p.m. due to a lack of officials. Once the officials arrived and the game began two a half hours late, the Wildcat and Knights took to battle in another critical Mid-Central College Conference showdown.
Once again free throw shooting doomed the Wildcats. IWU shot 47.8-percent (11 of 23) from the line and missed their first eight attempts. But it was too little, too late as Marian took advantage with 78.3-percent (18 of 23) shooting from the charity stripe.
One bright spot for Indiana Wesleyan (13-9 5-5 MCC) was junior guard Aaron Martin with a team-high 16 points. He was 6-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Junior guard George Jones IV added 12 points and sophomore center Parker Stouffer finished with a double-double off the bench. In just 21 minutes of play, Stouffer added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Marian (14-7, 5-5 MCC) was led by the duo of Alex Sylvester and Aaron Evans with 19 points apiece. The Knights as a team hit 48.9-percent (23 of 47) of their shots 44.4-percent (4 of 9) from deep.
The Knights led 37-27 at the half which featured Marian shooting 62.5-percent while Indiana Wesleyan was ice cold at 35.7-percent. IWU outscored the host Knights 36-31 in the final 20 minutes but was unable to overcome the 10 point halftime deficit.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to Luckey Arena for their next game on Tuesday, January 24. IWU hosts No. 4-ranked Grace (Ind.) College on Black Out Night at 7 p.m. All fans are encouraged to wear black to support the Wildcats and to arrive early as a large crowd is expected.
