IWU Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Huntington

MARION, Ind. (Box Score) -- It took less than an hour Wednesday night for the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team to dispatch visiting Huntington (Ind.) University.

The Wildcats rumbled to a 3-0 victory in Luckey Arena by scores of 25-13, 25-10, 25-11 in Mid-Central College Conference play. All 15 Wildcats saw action against the Foresters (3-6, 0-3 MCC) and 13 of them played in at least two games.

Five Wildcats ended with at least four kills, led by senior outside hitter Kate Denlinger with seven. Sophomore outside hitter Shelby Newberry and sophomore middle hitter Kristine Egebrecht added five kills each while senior middle hitter Lauryn Barfell and junior outside hitter Brooke Atwell each contributed four.

Indiana Wesleyan (9-3, 3-1 MCC) was very efficient Wednesday night while attacking, evident by the .368 hitting percentage by the team. Atwell produced a .667 hitting percentage on her four kills and Denlinger had a .455 attack percentage from her seven kills.

A pair of Wildcat setters passed out double digit assists. Junior Yui Iwase collected 16 assists in two games while freshman Christi Benting chipped in with 11.

Defensively, senior libero Kelsey Masuda earned 15 of the team's 39 digs while IWU totaled four blocks in the win.

Indiana Wesleyan will travel on Friday for their first ever MCC match at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University at 7 p.m.
