Box Score CANTON, Ohio -- A late Malone (Ohio) University goal gave Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer their first defeat of the season on Wednesday afternoon in Canton, Ohio.
The Pioneers broke a scoreless tie with just 2:40 left in regulation to pick up the 1-0 victory. The Wildcats perfect start to the year comes to a close and IWU now stands 3-1-0 on the season.
In a back-and-forth affair, the Wildcats gained their best scoring attempt in the 77th minute. Sophomore midfielder Geoff Bowman took an open shot at the top of the 18-yard box that went off the Malone goalkeeper's hands. The ball then hit off the crossbar and was cleared out of the box.
Malone earns the win in their first match of the season to stand 1-0-0 on the year.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the pitch September 9-10 at the Bethel (Ind.) College Classic. IWU will battle #RV Illinois Tech at 5 p.m. on Friday and Indiana Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in Mishawaka, Indiana.
