IWU Men's Soccer Earns Win over #RV Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y. (Box Score) -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team won for the second straight day in New York with a 2-1 victory over host Houghton (N.Y.) College.

The Highlanders (0-2-0) are just outside the NAIA Top-25 and are the second highest ranked team in the receiving votes section.

Indiana Wesleyan was the first team on the scoreboard Saturday with a tally in the 38th minute. Junior midfielder Lucas Carpenter took a free kick for IWU and junior defender Mark Keating was on the receiving end to score his first collegiate goal to give Indiana Wesleyan the 1-0 lead.

The Keating goal was the lone tally of the first half but Indiana Wesleyan was able to double their lead early in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Geoff Bowman took a corner kick in the 62nd minute which senior forward Ben Stoddard knocked into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Houghton cut the lead in half in the 78th minute for a 2-1 score. But the Indiana Wesleyan defense held over the final 12 minutes to secure a 3-0-0 record to open the season.

Indiana Wesleyan remains on the road for their next match at Malone (Ohio) University. IWU will travel to Canton, Ohio for the match at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
