Box Score 2 JOLIET, Ill. -- Indiana Wesleyan University softball earned victories against two different University of Saint Francis programs on Saturday afternoon at the USF Spring Fling Tournament in Joliet, Illinois.
Indiana Wesleyan opened the day with a 4-3 victory over Saint Francis of Indiana in a non-conference showdown with the fellow Mid-Central College Conference rival. IWU completed the Spring Fling Tournament with an 11-5 win over the host, Saint Francis of Illinois.
Junior Abbie Forman was the winning pitcher in both games. She struck out nine in the opener and finished with seven punchouts in the finale.
Senior third baseman Kate Hall was 2-for-3 in the first game while junior centerfielder Tamara Davis hit 2-for-4 with a double.
Against the host Saint Francis in the second game Saturday, Indiana Wesleyan quickly fell behind and trailed 5-0 heading into the fifth inning. IWU would plate nine runs in the fifth en route to the 11-5 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan slugged 15 hits in the contest as six different Wildcats contributed multiple hits.
Freshman shortstop Emily Sell, Davis and Forman all went 2-for-3 at the plate while sophomore catcher Katie Smith, freshman second baseman Gabby McIntire and senior leftfielder Katie Brummett all went 2-for-4 at the plate. Brummett added a double in the win.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 14-10 on the season.
The Wildcats return home for a pair of MCC doubleheaders during the upcoming week. IWU hosts Grace (Ind.) College on Tuesday, April 5 and Bethel (Ind.) College on Thursday, April 7. Both doubleheaders begin at 3 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
