FT. WAYNE, Ind. - Indiana
Wesleyan University softball dominated in all phases of the game on Thursday as
the Wildcats took a doubleheader from the University of St. Francis (Ind.) by scores
of 6-1 and 8-0.
Indiana Wesleyan snapped a four game losing streak as they
improved to 18-14 overall and evened their MCC record at 5-5.
The Wildcats jumped out to a quick lead in the first game as
they scored three unearned runs in the top of the first inning courtesy of two
hits, a hit batsmen, and an error. The three-run margin would prove to be more
than enough for IWU as the Wildcat defense limited the Cougars (4-20, 0-9 MCC)
to one run throughout the game. IWU would add insurance runs in the third,
fifth, and seventh innings to reach the final score of 6-1.
Indiana Wesleyan sophomore Dana Runyan went 2-for-4 with a
double and an RBI, while freshmen Gabby McIntire and Emily Sell both recorded
two hits.
IWU junior Abbie Forman threw a complete game for the win,
allowing one run on six hits and two walks, while striking out seven batters.
The Wildcats carried over their strong play into the second
game as they downed the Cougars 8-0 in five innings. After a slow start, the
IWU offense came to life in the fourth inning scoring four runs on three hits
and two errors by USF. Indiana Wesleyan would double their run total in the
fifth inning as four more Wildcat hits led to the final margin of 8-0.
IWU junior Tamara Davis went 2-for-3 at the dish with a
double and two runs scored, while Emily Sell continued her hot streak as she also
went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Abbie Forman pitched another solid game as she went the full
five innings recording the shutout victory on four hits, two walks, and three
strikeouts.
Indiana Wesleyan will look to continue their winning ways on
Saturday as they travel to Spring Arbor (Mich.) University for a MCC
doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
